Dr. Douglas Pacaccio is the President of the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association (IPMA). He currently is a podiatrist at Advanced Foot & Ankle Surgeons, which serves the communities in and around Sycamore, Aurora and Yorkville, Illinois.
Pacaccio specializes in reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery, diabetic charcot reconstruction, external fixation, peripheral nerve disorders, arthroscopy, orthopedic traumatology and limb salvage.
In honor of April being Foot Health Awareness Month, Pacaccio took a few minutes to talk about ways to keep your feet healthy and how a podiatrist can help.
What is the number one thing people can learn about properly taking care of their feet?
Wear appropriate shoe gear for different activities
What is a simple thing anyone can do that would have a big impact on their feet, as well as their overall health?
Walk daily and engage in low impact exercise
What’s the biggest misconception about podiatry?
That podiatrists only treat toes and don’t treat ankle problems
What interested you most about pursuing a career in podiatry?
The complexity and the mechanics of the foot and ankle and how instrumental a healthy foot and ankle is to overall living
