LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY
  • ILAPPS’s contracted legislative consultant monitors and responds to state legislation and regulatory agency proposals related to the practice of podiatric medicine in Illinois including the Podiatric Medical Practice Act, the Medicaid program, hospital and surgery center privileges for podiatric physicians.
  • Capwiz link on the ILAPPS website allows members direct and easy communication with national and state representatives.
  • In 2008 alone, APMA’s visibility in Congress & liaisons with the entire medical community resulted in stopping cuts to Medicare reimbursement and gained an exemption from DME certification for podiatric physicians. 
  • APMA’s e-Advocacy site allows you to keep track of national legislation affecting podiatry.
  • Inclusion in an advisory capacity to the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services in a public policy setting.
  
CONTINUING EDUCATION 
  • Clinical & scientific programs providing required continuing medical education credits
  • Programs that provide practice management information, i.e., coding.

  • Access to APMA’s national public education programs such as Knock Your Socks Off, and Diabetes Month materials – all developed by the APMA’s Public Education and Information Committee.
  • ILAPPS’s public relations efforts – Spring Pedometer/Walking campaign; Fall Call-in Day, Shoe Drive in December; monthly CAN-TV programs; monthly press releases on foot health.
  • Referrals from the ILAPPS website, the state-wide toll-free number, and the APMA website.
